We at Altair EcoVillage have been exploring native plants, forest renovation, and many other topics related to Permaculture. We are stewards of 9 acres of land, including woods, wetlands, open fields –several microclimates!
We are planning a field trip to Mt Cuba Center in nearby Hockessin, Delaware. Take a look at their wonderful website to get the flavor of their work and their gardens: https://mtcubacenter.org
Here is what Mt Cuba Center says:
"Immerse yourself in the beauty and benefits of native plants on a two-hour, in-depth tour of Mt. Cuba’s formal and naturalistic gardens. Learn about the research being conducted in our trial garden to help bring the best-performing natives to local nurseries. Talk with a guide about our extensive native plant collections while receiving useful tips on sustainable gardening practices." This private group Green Thumb Tour lasts two hours and is $4 per person in addition to garden admission ($14 for Group Rate).
Note: Mt. Cuba is limiting groups to 8 people per docent to ensure safe social distancing, so they will break our group into two after we arrive.
