Our Beginning

Altair EcoVillage began in 1999 with a small group of elders called STAR (Seniors for Talents and Resources). They had heard about Cohousing as a model for living together and had explored a site or two, speaking with professionals to start the process.

Since then Altair (brightest naked eye star in the constellation Aquila) has presented our concept to the six Townships in and around Phoenixville, have worked with three other developers, looked seriously at over two dozen sites and have had at least 300 different people attend meetings and workshops.

We are close to getting a special Zoning Ordinance on the current site. We have adopted the name “EcoVillage” to reflect our desire to work on healing the planet and building community.

where bigger is not necessarily better, where slower can be faster, and where less can be more.”
